Various customer complaints may arise due to the following issues:
- Noise (wind noise, rattling, grating) coming from the glass panoramic roof and/or roof lining
- Leaks and water ingress into the vehicle interior
- Electrical and mechanical malfunctions when opening and/or closing the glass cover, wind deflector or roof lining
Various causes are described in the fault diagnostics tree.
A fault diagnostics tree has been created on the subject of "glass panoramic roof", which deals with mechanical and electrical topic areas. This is available in the diagnostics (DIS tester, GT1) with immediate effect and covers all current topics at the time of release of the latest DIS update (DVD).
You can find the fault diagnosis tree in the DIS tester or in the GT1 under the following path:
TEST MODULES FOR NOISE AND WATER LEAKS:
The following test modules are available for testing faults in the panoramic roof that lead to noise or leaks:
- Test module for panoramic roof noises
- Test module for water leaks at the panoramic roof
For all appropriate series, you can select the appropriate test module via the following paths:
OPTION 1 - "FAULT PATTERN SELECTION DIAGNOSTICS (see attachment 1):
- 5400 Soft top and sliding/tilting sunroof systems
- 540012 Noise coming from the panoramic glass sunroof
- 540013 Water leaks at the panoramic glass sunroof
OPTION 2 - "FUNCTION AND COMPONENT SELECTION DIAGNOSTICS" (see attachment 2):
- Complete vehicle – body – mechanics, noise, optical system, leaks - noise - panoramic roof noise or
- Complete vehicle – body – mechanics, noise, optical system, leaks - water leaks - water ingress at the panoramic roof

Series E53 and E83:
- Complete vehicle – body – locking and security functions- panoramic glass sunroof

Series E61:
- Complete vehicle – body – locking and security functions - sliding/tilting sunroof
sliding/tilting sunroof switch/drive
Series E91, R55, R56:
- Complete vehicle – body – locking and security functions - sliding/tilting sunroof
sliding/tilting sunroof drive
Series E70:
- Complete vehicle – body – locking and security functions - sliding/tilting sunroof

CAUTION - IMPORTANT NOTE
Please perform ALL the diagnostics (i.e. work through the whole fault diagnosis tree). You will receive the associated service measure only at the end of diagnostics: after the fault pattern has
been delimited.
Replacing the entire panoramic roof (entire panoramic roof replacement part / panoramic roof frame) is only permitted if this is given as a repair measure in the "malfunction" or "water leaks" test modules. A noise fault does not justify replacement of the entire panoramic roof. Warranty applications will be inspected in this regard.
