The inboard tail light is touching the outboard tail light, which causes scratches to both
(see enclosure 3).
The black side cover for the tail lights in the boot lid on vehicles manufactured before 20th November
2006 (see enclosure 1) differs from that of vehicles manufactured thereafter (see enclosure 2).
On vehicles manufactured before 20th November 2006, the black side cover is made of a thicker, harder plastic
approximately 2.5 - 3 mm thick. This could be causing the contact
and consequential damage (see enclosure 1 and 3).
On vehicles manufactured since 20th November 2006, a black side cover made of a thinner, more flexible plastic
is used, which is bonded on and is approximately 1.5 - 1.75 mm thick. This new
design of the inboard tail lights prevents the inboard and outboard tail lights from touching (see
enclosure 2).
Service measure:
Change the tail light on the boot lid in accordance with Repair Instructions 63 21 183.
