As passengers get into or out of the vehicle, there is a high-frequency noise from the
seat shell in the second row.
The spring suspension (front and rear) causes squeaking noises due to the turning motion
of the springs; movements are possible. The noise arises from the friction between the
metal of the springs and the coating on the seat upholstery.
Only concerns the second seat row (option) in vehicles with
option: "S4UBA - 3rd seat row"
Service measure:
1.) Use the easy-entry feature. Then detach the springs of
the upholstery mounting.
2.) Lay felt or foam pieces (see enclosure 1) in the brackets for the exposed ends of the springs in
the seat shell.
3.) Then refit the springs (see enclosure 2).
Series measure:
As a short-term solution, the brackets for the exposed ends of the springs in the seat shell are being
equipped with pieces of felt. As a long-term solution, the coating of the springs is being modified. The
short-term solution is being introduced from 3rd Jan. 2007, the long-term solution from the end of January 2007.
