Distinct clacking noises from the front end of the vehicle during a change of direction on even ground
(especially if the steering is turned rapidly through the centre) and/or the vehicle is driven straight ahead over uneven ground.
Vehicles concerned: all E70 with AdaptiveDrive

1. Various causes possible (RA 3790..: observe /work through)
2. Spring accumulator at the ARS front axle oscillating motor: loss of acoustic efficiency

In the event of a customer complaint, please observe the following procedure:
Pull the fuse for the ARS system and assess the vehicle.
If the noise is NO LONGER present with the ARS fuse pulled:
1. Check the ARS system for open line holders, stressed line routings, etc. (see RA 37 90 .. ,
Part 1: Noises (banging, rattling) during straight-ahead travel and slight turning through the centre. Here, refer only to the information relating to the topic of ARS). However, do not replace the spring accumulator;
refer instead to item 2 relating to the improved anti-roll bars.
2. If no other fault can be detected, replace the front axle anti-roll bar fitted with external noise-damping attachments
(part no. 37 10 6 781 636) with an improved anti-roll bar without external attachments (part no. 37 10
6 783 037). The conversion must be carried out using Progman V29.0 (available from March 2008) or a
more recent version, from the "Conversion
etrofit" menu using the "Anti-roll bar" button. For vehicles with the
Dynamic Drive System, initialisation must then be carried out in accordance with RA 37 11 010.
Improved anti-roll bars will be available from around May 2008. Caution: with twin-piston anti-roll bar 3711 6 783 037,
it is not permitted to exchange or fit new pressure relief valves under any circumstances because
the relief valves have been discontinued on this variant.
If the noise is STILL present with the ARS fuse pulled:
1. Please check the pendulum support for damage/play and loose connections.
2. If the noises are still present, please observe RA 31 90 .. and check the front end of the vehicle for loose
connections, etc.
